Influence of local site effects on seismic risk maps and ranking of Italian municipalities

Abstract The latest studies concerning seismic risk assessment in Italy were developed without considering the site geo-lithological effects, thus limiting to rock soil type. In this study, for evaluation of amplification we used results recent works based on Italian microzonation data. As first study is performed entire territory at municipality scale, factors (AFs) have been assigned chief town each 7715 municipalities, assuming that building stock concentrated small area. AFs compared with those foreseen by code (NTC2018). PGA new ranges from 1 2.2 bringing an average increase 75% hazard, 27% if using NTC2018 amplification. has evaluated probabilistic hazard adopted and vulnerability/exposure models Italy. residential was subdivided into 5 vulnerability classes (3 masonry 2 concrete) derived national census data further refined construction age height. show that, a condition, loss estimates are comparable previous terms casualties, homeless, economic damage. introduction effects brings significant expected losses resulting higher than historical retrieved careful analysis major earthquakes.
